Why looking for Love on the Internet is a Money-Saver in the Financial Crisis
When the financial crisis first struck, everyone was convinced that all kinds of spending would diminish. Obviously, the first thing to go would be unnecessary luxuries, then spending would stop for anything that isn’t an absolute necessity. As it turns out, love is a necessity – such an important one, in fact, that finding love on the internet has become more popular since the beginning of the financial crisis!
More singles are looking for love on the internet as their economic prospects decline. Why? Obviously, many singles who may have been very work focused prior to the financial crisis, suddenly woke up to the fact that work doesn’t answer all their questions.
Some singles actually take economic difficulties during the financial crisis as the main motivation for finding love online, because they don’t want to be alone in these tough times. Here’s why singles feel that looking for love will save them money (according to a be2 member survey):
- 56% of singles in the UK say the financial crisis had an influence on their decision to look for love on the internet.
- 37% think they could share expenses with a partner when they find love on the internet. Life as a couple is sgnificantly cheaper than the single lifestyle.
- Many singles see the search for love on the internet as the most cost efficient way to find a new partner. 31% think online matchmaking sites are good value for money, compared to offline dating agencies. 35% of Singles think it’s too expensive to go out to clubs and bars to find a partner.
- 22% of singles who are using be2 say that online matchmaking was a good way to get to know people quickly. After all – time is money!
These are some of the reasons that the financial crisis didn’t have a negative effect on be2. On the contrary, be2’s membership has kept on growing throughout the financial crisis, with no end in sight!
Insecurity in Relationships: Which European Singles Find Themselves Least Attractive (You’ll be Surprised!)
When we asked European singles from different countries some questions on confidence and assertiveness, the one thing we didn’t expect was high levels of insecurity in relationships in the responses from French singles. Surely, the French are hardly perceived as the most insecure Europeans when it comes to dating?
However, it seems that French singles may be suffering from insecurity in relationships. When completing the be2 personality test, French singles revealed that they score themselves lowest for attractiveness, compared to other nationalities and are less likely to express their feelings for someone they like, for fear of being rejected.
The most confident European singles are Italian women, who rate themselves the most attractive and are most likely to make the first move without any sign of insecurity in relationships.
How do we know about European singles’ insecurity in relationships?
All European singles that register with be2 complete the same science-based personality test. These answers allow be2 to provide a unique personality profile that helps the matching algorithm find other singles that are a good match.
One of the questions in the personality test asks singles to rate their own attractiveness:

Another question asks users how likely they would be to make the first move:

When you take the answers to both questions together and compare them by nation, the results are quite surprising.

Asked how they rate their own attractiveness, Italian and Dutch singles have relatively high perceptions of their own attractiveness and women tend to have higher scores than men. Asked if they are prepared to make the first move, the sense of their own beauty does not always correlate with assertiveness.
However, there are some obvious parallels, with Italian singles in general rating themselves the most attractive and also scoring highly on assertiveness. Italian women, in particular, see themselves as the most beautiful and assertive European singles. So far, so true to stereotype.
But the results of French singles surprised us: French men were proportionally least assertive and confident in their and a quarter of all French men would not make the first move out of insecurity in relationships.
The great thing about science-based matchmaking? be2 finds the right partner for European singles based on these replies, so all singles are matched to partners that are well suited. And those singles who are worried about their insecurity in relationships can rely on the personality test result, personal introductions and tools like the internal messaging system and the ‘just ask’ quiz to make it easy to take the first step.

Online Dating to Phone Flirt: When is the Right Time to ask for a Phone Number?

There is only the time that is right for you and the person you are online dating. However, when we asked the members of online dating site be2, their answers were surprisingly clear – and they might help you find the right time to ask for a phone number when you’re online dating:
- You don’t have to wait too long to ask for a phone number Nearly ¼ of the singles online dating through be2 are happy to give out their phone number after exchanging only one or two messages. Over 50% are ready after two or three messages.
- Men are more eager to swap numbers 67.5% of male singles give out their number after two or three messages or less. Single women say they would wait considerably longer.
- Young singles are most willing to swap numbers early Younger Singles tend to be more willing to give out their phone numbers. About 60% of singles 35 and under would give out their number after two or three messages or less, while singles 36 to 55 are most cautious (only 51.5% are willing to give out their number so early).

Making the First Move: How European Singles Handle Online Dating
Making the first move is one of the many things that have been affected by online dating.
Where making the first
move in the past meant buying a lady a drink in a bar or hitting her up with a corny chat up line, in the online dating world it means writing a well-crafted personal message explaining why you like someone’s profile and why you would like to find out more about them.
We wanted to know how European singles today handle making the first move. We looked at one question from the be2 questionnaire that all European singles registered with be2 have completed.

We compared how certain groups of European singles replied to the following question, on average: Read more
